About Kate

Kate Krieg, M.A., PMP, founder of Learn Consulting, was born in St. Louis, Missouri and grew up in Pensacola, Florida. Her path in education started with her grandmothers, feisty women who overcame numerous obstacles in the 1930s to earn, respectively, a high school degree in Mississippi and a nursing degree in Missouri— more formal education than both of their husbands who at different times operated a fishing vessel, tourist boat, single-room grocery store, and concrete business.

Kate has more than 14 years of experience in higher education and expertise in adaptive leadership, administration, equity-focused student success strategies, project management, change management, education company platforms, assessment, and teaching.

She was previously an Executive Director at Seattle Central College where she created a Guided Pathways portfolio ($1.6M), and successfully led interdepartmental teams in turbulent times. Prior, Kate oversaw the largest college division as an Associate Dean with 100+ union employees and 19 departments.

Kate is a cultural anthropologist with an ethnographic and qualitative research background, and has taught and designed curriculum across a variety of topics including race, class, gender, globalization, and environmentalism. In the words of her students, “Ms. Krieg is perhaps the most passionate teacher I have ever met [and] is clearly inspired by social justice and fairness.”

She also has a facilitation background and extensive experience building workshops, webinars, retreats, and professional development events.

Kate’s approach is collaborative and facilitative. She offers support behind the scenes or on stage for a variety of organizational needs.

To quote a friend, “strategic planning starts with strategic thinking.” Kate is an exceptional strategic thinker. She has a unique ability to keep you grounded in your “why” while guiding you to completion. I enjoyed working with and learning from Kate—under her leadership and guidance the college built an actionable and sustainable Guided Pathways plan that centered equity and community. Kate’s integrity and commitment make her an ideal partner and consultant.
